The Lowly Sailor

Who do you say I am,
You who thinks you know?
I am but a single grain of salt,
Lost in the sea's endless faults.
Around me dangers lurked,
Hungry to destroy His messengers,
A faithful child emerged,
Now an adult, submerged.
To my left, abundance of inspiration,
To my right, ignorance in barren lands,
Scorned by distant strangers they screech,
By friends' love, light reach.
I spoke of truths, from love and hope,
And of lies, fearful struck by rope.
I sought the light for guidance bright,
Yet walked on thorns, my independence plight.
I felt pure love's warm embrace,
Yet withered in disgrace,
Shielding hope’s sweet virginity,
Yet scarred by shame's cruel vanity.
Evil doers closed around me fright,
By their chains, they bound me tight,
They mocked my harshest moments,
I wept and shuddered in the elements.
Oh, how I longed for freedom's song,
For sweet relief and to right the wrong.
Thus I ask you once again,
Who am I, where am I meant?
I belong not to this world,
For it knows me not at all,
My worth comes from my Captain,
To His call, I forever fall.
He found me in my anguish,
Chained by torment's languish,
In compassion, He embraced me,
In love, He graced my soul,
At the sound of His name,
My heart ignited like a flame.
He ventured into my darkness,
With healing in His sight,
A stirring deep within me,
Made me reach for Him with light.
I cried His name in anguish,
His sight behooves me with relish.
“Have mercy upon me," I plead in despair,
"Wretched and lost, in this world so unfair.
O He above all, with a heart pure and bright,
Fulfill Your will, guide me through the night!”
“Arise! Arise!” He spoke so fair,
"Your spirit grieves, yet see me declare,
Belief will bring you relief,
And My Kingdom will bring you freedom."
He paid my ransom dearly,
Broke apart my prison walls cavalierly,
He scattered all my worries,
And lifted me from follies.
I stood to face my Savior,
Battered, yet filled with fervor,
I placed my hands, bruised and cold,
In His warm hands, transfused and extolled.
"My Lord! My Lord!" I fervently cried,
"My life is Thine to abide!
My will shall be Your servant,
To obey Your Word, fervent will I be!"
"Amen, O servant," said He,
"At sea you'll sail with Thee,
Through tempests, dark and daunting,
Your strength will be your guiding light.
Where hearts are laden, your words will touch,
To teach them truths they seek in just,
Though you may feel so weary,
In me, you shall be merry."
He set before me a vessel fine,
A ship of courage and grace divine,
With sails as white as snowflakes pure,
To guide me in this grace, my soul is sure.
In twilight's gentle embrace,
Where the sea meets the sky to brace,
I pulled on ropes of clew garnets strong,
As stars began to sigh their evening song.
The sails breathed secrets softly,
While waves danced close in tune heavily,
With hands that toiled on shoreline's fine,
I readied to launch at sunshine's line.
Each knot carried my story alone,
Of journeys long I have known,
Of storms I bravely weathered,
And sweet songs I have savored.
Her bow cut through the water's might,
With courage in her master's strife,
I sailed through sun and shadow,
Keeping heart for moon and morrow.
I raise the flag of His Grace,
To bless the sea with His embrace,
The keys adorned with purity,
Reflecting His endearing sincerity.
I am the Sailor of God,
In humble reverie I trod,
He sends me to the tempest's edge,
And amends us to His divine pledge.
Hear me, lost children of the sea,
Come to the shepherd and see,
He that breathed life into me,
I am your bold Sailor, ever be!
